Your child has probably been to a lot of parties this year with bouncy castles and face painting. For their own birthday, they want something their friends will still be talking about on Monday. A STEM birthday party does exactly that: instead of watching an entertainer, the children drive robots, fly drones, design and print their own creations, and compete for prizes. This guide covers seven STEM birthday party ideas we run in Dubai, which one suits your child, what happens at a robotics party, and how to plan the day.

Quick answer: a STEM birthday party is a kids’ party built around hands-on science and technology activities, led by an instructor. At iCodejr, you can choose from seven options: robotics challenges (robo football and robo maze), drone flying training and competitions, a live 3D printing class, 3D pen art, VR experiences, an AI photo booth to rent, and gift cards for kids as prizes or return gifts. We bring everything and set up at your home, anywhere in the UAE, for children aged 6 and up. To plan one, message us on WhatsApp with your child’s age, the date and the number of guests.

What is a STEM birthday party?

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and maths. A STEM party (sometimes called a science or tech birthday party) swaps the usual entertainer for an activity the children do themselves: they build, design, steer and compete. It still feels like a party, with cheering, prizes, cake and photos, but every child gets to make or control something, not just watch.

“Kids are already growing up with technology all around them. I think we should give them the chance to understand how it works, not just use it.”

— Hannan Moti, Founder and CEO, iCodejr

1. Robotics challenges: robo football and robo maze

This is the classic robotics birthday party. Children team up to steer robots through a robo maze, then face off in a robo football match, trying to push the ball into the other team’s goal. It’s fast, noisy and competitive, and it works even for children who’ve never touched a robot, because the instructor shows them the controls first.

2. Drone flying training and competitions

Children learn how a drone takes off, turns and lands, and how to fly it safely, using small indoor drones inside a netted obstacle course we set up in your home. Once everyone has had a turn, the training turns into competitions: races through the course and precision landings. It’s a great choice for children who love gadgets and speed.

3. A live 3D printing class

In a 3D printing party, each child designs their own small item on a computer, such as a name tag, a keyring or a little figure, and the instructor prints it on a 3D printer. Children love seeing an object they designed appear layer by layer, and the prints are usually ready during the party, so they take them home the same day. If it sparks a real interest, our Tinkercad 3D design course is the next step.

4. 3D pen art

A 3D pen works like a hot-glue pen that draws in the air: children sketch shapes that harden in seconds, then build them into butterflies, towers, glasses or anything else they imagine. Everyone takes their creation home. It’s calmer than robotics or drones, so it suits children who love drawing and making.

5. VR experiences

With a VR headset, children step inside games and virtual worlds, from exploring space to dodging obstacles. Guests take turns while the instructor manages the headsets and keeps the queue moving.

6. An AI photo booth

Our AI photo booth is available to rent for your party. Guests take a photo, and the booth turns it into the birthday child’s chosen theme, from superheroes to space explorers, then prints it on the spot. It works for every age, including the adults, so it’s a good extra alongside one of the activities above.

7. Gift cards for kids

Need prizes for the competition winners or return gifts for every guest? Our gift cards for kids are for iCodejr online classes, so the fun can carry on after the party.

What happens at a robotics birthday party?

Every party is different, but a robotics party usually runs like this:

  1. Welcome and meet the robots: the instructor shows the children what the robots can do and how to control them.
  2. Practice time: everyone gets a turn, and the instructor helps anyone who’s unsure.
  3. Robo maze: teams guide their robot through a maze against the clock.
  4. Robo football: a tournament, with the whole party cheering on.
  5. Prizes, cake and photos: gift cards for the winners and time to celebrate.

To make it feel like an adventure, you can add a theme: space robots, rescue robots or racing robots, with matching invitations and decorations.

How to plan a STEM birthday party in Dubai

A few decisions make the day much easier:

  • Guests and ages: the number of children and their ages decide which activities work best.
  • Pick one or two activities: one main activity plus an extra (like the photo booth) is plenty.
  • Space: robots and drones need a clear floor area; 3D pens and 3D printing need a table and power sockets.
  • Indoors or out: for much of the year, Dubai is too hot for long outdoor activities in the daytime, so plan indoors or for an evening in the cooler months.
  • Length: about two hours is plenty for most children’s parties, with the activity in the middle and time for food and cake.
  • Instructors: we match the number of instructors to your guest list, with about one instructor for every five children.
  • Return gifts: gift cards make an easy, useful return gift.
  • Message early: weekend dates are popular, so get in touch a few weeks ahead.

Did the birthday child love it?

Many children leave a STEM party wanting to do more. If yours does, our live, one-to-one online classes cover robotics (with a micro:bit kit we ship to UAE homes), 3D design, coding and AI. If you can’t decide between the two, read robotics or coding: which first? For more ideas on keeping children busy and learning, see our after-school activities guide.
