Your child has caught the coding bug. Maybe it started with Minecraft or Roblox, or a friend at school who built a game. Now you’re searching, and Dubai offers more choice than you expected: centres in the malls, clubs at school, holiday camps, online classes, recorded courses. Which one is actually best for your child?
Quick answer: The best coding classes for kids in Dubai have children building real projects in every lesson, give each child enough of the teacher’s attention, suit their age, and fit your family’s week, which in Dubai often means thinking about traffic as much as the timetable. Centres and school clubs suit children who like learning in a group. Live online classes, especially one-to-one, suit busy families and children who want to go further at their own pace. Recorded courses work best as extra practice, not as a first class. Whatever you choose, try a class first.
What kinds of coding classes can kids take in Dubai?
| Option | How it works | Good for | Check before you sign up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Learning centre | A weekly group class at a centre, often in a mall or community area | Children who enjoy a classroom and friends | Group size, the drive at 4 pm, what happens if you miss a class |
| School club (ECA) | An after-school club run by or at your child’s school | Trying coding with no extra travel | How long it runs, whether it goes beyond the basics |
| Holiday camp | Daily sessions over a school break | A taste of coding in the holidays | Whether there’s a way to keep going after the camp |
| Live online group class | A teacher and a small group on video | Families who want flexibility at a lower price | How many children share the teacher |
| Live online one-to-one | One teacher, one child, on video | Going deeper at your child’s pace; busy weeks | Whether it’s truly one-to-one every class |
| Recorded course | Pre-made videos your child follows alone | Older, self-motivated children; extra practice | Who answers questions when your child is stuck |
Live or recorded: which coding classes are best?
Recorded coding classes are popular because they’re cheap and always available. For a confident teenager who already codes, a good recorded course can be a useful extra.
For most children, though, live classes work better, especially at the start. When code doesn’t work, a recorded video can’t see what your child typed, and a stuck child often gives up. A live teacher spots the mistake, asks the right question and keeps them going.
“The teacher has been wonderful with my daughter. She’s comfortable asking questions, even when she doesn’t understand something. That makes a big difference for us.”
— Sana F., parent of Amina, Dubai
All iCodejr classes are live. For practice between classes, younger children can use Bloqi, our own block-coding environment, which is free for every child.
What makes a coding class one of the best?
- Your child makes something in every lesson: a game, an animation, an app, a robot that moves.
- The teacher has time for your child, not just the class.
- The course matches their age, from picture-based coding at 5 to typed Python for teens.
- There’s a clear path from one level to the next, with projects to show for it.
- You hear how it’s going, not just at the end of term.
“I’d much rather see a child proudly showing off a simple game they built themselves than a complicated project they barely understand.”
— Hannan Moti, Founder and CEO, iCodejr

Which coding class suits my child's age?
| Age | What suits them | What to look for | iCodejr path |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5–6 | Picture-based coding on a tablet: moving characters, simple stories | Short, playful lessons with no reading needed | KG-1 learning path, ScratchJr |
| 7–10 | Block coding: Scratch games, Minecraft, first robotics and AI projects | Lots of making, and a teacher who keeps them moving | Ages 7–8, ages 9–10 |
| 11–14 | Typed Python, websites, Roblox games, generative AI | Real code, and projects they’d want to show friends | Ages 11–14, Roblox |
| 15–18 | Advanced Python, AI and machine learning, app development | Depth, and work they can show for university | Advanced Python |
Coding for young children in Dubai is more popular every year, and five is a good age to start if lessons are short and visual.
“Even a simple animation can be a big achievement for a beginner. You can tell they’re proud of making something on their own.”
— Fathima H, iCodejr teacher

How do coding classes fit into a Dubai family's week?
Most families fit coding around the school run, homework and other activities. A few things are specific to Dubai:
- Fridays. Dubai private schools finish by noon on Friday (in Sharjah, schools are closed on Fridays), which makes Friday afternoon an easy slot for a class.
- Traffic. A 30-minute class across town can take two hours of your afternoon. If you’re looking at a centre, time the drive at 4 pm, not at 10 am.
- Weekends. Saturday mornings are popular, so weekend slots at centres fill up first.
- Holidays. Long summer and winter breaks are a good time to start or to catch up.
Centres tend to be clustered in certain areas, so families in Al Barsha, Jumeirah, Mirdif, Dubai Marina and further out often have very different choices. Online classes remove that problem: the best class is the same wherever you live, and a class doesn’t stop when one of you is travelling. What do coding classes for kids cost in Dubai?
Prices in Dubai depend on how many children share the teacher, how long each class is, whether equipment such as a robotics kit is included, and how many classes you buy at once. When you compare, ask about the price per class, not per month, and whether there’s a free trial.
At iCodejr the first class is free, and after that you pay per class, from AED 60:
| Package | Classes | Price per class | Lasts about |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cadet | 24 | AED 75 | 3–4 months |
| Captain | 48 | AED 70 | 5–6 months |
| Colonel | 96 | AED 65 | 9–12 months |
| General | 144 | AED 60 | 18–24 months |

We run offers several times a year, including in winter and summer, so you may pay less than the prices above. Message us and we'll tell you what's on right now.
Credits work across every course, so your child can switch from Scratch to Python or robotics without starting a new plan. Children with A grades or 90%+ can get 20% to 50% off through our Academic Excellence Scholarship. For more on how plans work, see our guide to coding class prices and plans.
Why do Dubai parents choose iCodejr?
iCodejr is based in Dubai and teaches children aged 5 to 18 across the UAE. Every class is live and one-to-one, in English or Arabic, at times you choose: mornings, afternoons, evenings or weekends. Frequently asked questions
What’s the right age to start coding classes in Dubai?
Children can start at five, with picture-based coding on a tablet. Most children move to block coding such as Scratch at 7 or 8, and to typed languages like Python from about 11.
Is learning to code online as good as going to a centre?
They can be better, especially one-to-one, because the teacher’s attention is on your child the whole time and there’s no drive. Children who love a classroom may still prefer a centre.
Are recorded coding classes worth it?
For older, self-motivated children, as extra practice. Younger children and beginners usually need a live teacher to help when their code doesn’t work.
What’s the price of coding classes in Dubai?
It depends on group size, class length and equipment. At iCodejr the first class is free and classes cost from AED 60 to AED 75 each, depending on the package, with seasonal offers several times a year.
Are there free coding classes for kids in Dubai?
Many providers, including iCodejr, offer a free trial class. Some schools run free coding clubs, and children can practise at home with free tools such as Scratch and Bloqi.
Are there weekend coding classes in Dubai?
Yes. With iCodejr you choose the days and times, from mornings and afternoons to evenings and weekends, and you can change them when the school timetable changes.
Can my child learn coding in Arabic?
Yes. Every iCodejr course is taught in English or Arabic.
Which programming language should my child learn first?
Usually a visual, block-based language: ScratchJr for ages 5–6 and Scratch from about 7. Python makes sense once a child types comfortably, usually from about 11. Our guide to Scratch games for kids is a good place to start.
Do coding classes give certificates?
Many do. At iCodejr, children earn a certificate for each module they complete, after a final project.
How do I try a coding class?
Book a free trial class. Your child builds a small project with a teacher, one-to-one, and we’ll suggest where to start.
